Top New Years Resolutions for 2007 from Around the World

According to ACNielsen, striking a balance between work and play, exercising more and avoiding disastrous relationships topped the New Years Resolution lists for 2007.

Fifty-six percent of people planned on making a New Years Resolution.

Consumers in 46 countries were surveyed and more than half who participated said they wanted to work less in 2007.

* Sixty percent of North Americans who planned to make a resolution plan to exercise more in 2007.

* One in three US consumers planned to go on a diet.

* One in three hope to achieve a better work life balance.

* One in five smokers said they would cut down or quit smoking.

What this says is that people sincerely desire to improve the quality of their life. However, next year most people will make the same resolutions all over again.

Why?

Because making a resolution is simply the first step in the process.

The word resolution is derived from "resolve" which means to decide.

Most people treat resolutions like a wish, not a decision.

What's the difference you ask?

Commitment.

Making the commitment followed by creating a plan, taking consistent, persistent action and following through.

You see in order to change your life, you must do the uncomfortable.

Creating a change requires you to make different choices, to take different actions, to create new habits which are different than what you've been doing - making it uncomfortable.

So as we are now well into the new year, how are you doing on your Resolutions?

Did you go back to your old habits, back to doing what is comfortable?

Change demands you get uncomfortable.

It's the reason I created the New Year, New Life! program.

It's uncomfortable going to bed early and waking up early so you can work out.

It's uncomfortable listening to motivational audios instead of watching the news.

It's uncomfortable taking the time to shop for and prepare healthy, nutritious meals.

It's uncomfortable when you're trying to resist that urge to smoke a cigarette.

The shift will occur and the change will manifest when you get more excited about getting uncomfortable than you are about continuing the old habit that you are trying to change.

Learn to enjoy getting uncomfortable.

Get addicted to getting uncomfortable.

It only takes 30 days to create a new habit.

After that time, what becomes uncomfortable is the old habit you left behind that no longer serves you.

That's 30 little days.

One day at a time.

What do you need to get uncomfortable about in order to transform your life?

New Year, New Life
